Jitendra Residence, Nogama

View from North East corner

I consider myself fortunate that i have been given the opportunity to work with & for people of varying capacities. Jitendrabhai is one of those people whom i fondly remember. He was a walk-in client at our office. I had not known him nor did we have any acquaintances. He had the basic requirement of a home for himself and his family. He is a farmer, and majority of his produce is bananas. His house was in Nogama a small settlement off Chikhli, which is near Billimora. Essentially what i mean to say is that it is very remote. It is during projects like these that I have realised, how relationships are more important than the buildings. It was Jitubhai's decision to have his daughters marriage in a 'pucca' house, as the house he was presently staying in had an asbestos, metal roof. It is such basic desires that shape a family's decision to build a home. Here the architect and his design are just a tool to help them realise this dream. So when i was confronted with this, I dropped the garb of an "architect as the master" and surrendered to the client's requirements and their humble desires.
